Octreotide in Acromegaly Natural somatostatin, present in the hypothalamus, gastrointestinal tract and pancreas, suppresses GH and insulin release for equal, brief periods. Octreotide has a longer duration of action on GH secretion than native somatostatin (Fig. 3.24) but insulin and glucagon suppression is of shorter duration than that of GH.
